Administrative Professionals Day, which originated in 1952, was known as “Professional Secretaries Day” until the year 2000, when the IAAP changed the name to reflect, in part, the expanding responsibilities of Administrative Professionals. IAAP’s website summarizes the unique role Administrative Professionals play, “In a world that demands the accurate and speedy movement of digital information, admins are masters of data. And they do this while maintaining their more traditional role as the gatekeepers for many customers, clients and employees. Quite simply, admins are the pulse of the office.” (quoted from IAAP.com)
For many Administrative Professionals, these expanded responsibilities also include facilitating business travel reservations for corporate travelers. And often, it’s not just one traveler these multi-tasking mavens are moving from point A to point B—but rather a team of travelers for whom they manage travel reservations. Navigating online booking tools like champs, and handling last-minute changes without blinking an eye, these talented and steadfast individuals strive to ensure their co-workers are where they need to be to keep business moving.
So today, on the 60th Anniversary of Administrative Professionals day, take a moment to thank the Administrative Professionals in your office.
