It’s about that time again! Time to celebrate Earth Day, and there’s no better place to spend the day than the U.S. capital, Washington D.C.

The theme for 2012 is “Mobilize the Earth” with an emphasis on building a sustainable future. There will be hands-on activities for all ages near 14th Street and the National Mall sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A highlight this year will be the National Sustainable Design Expo featuring displays by the EPA, non-profit organizations, green industries, and university students from across the country. Exhibits will be on display April 20-22, 2012, with the main festivities April 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET.

Check often at Earth Day National Mall for updates including music artist appearances, celebrity speakers and environmental activities. If a trip to Washington DC isn’t possible for you this year, check out events closer to home. Earth Day is coordinated by Earth Day Network, a non-profit organization.
