Here are some regional happenings from “sea to shining sea”!

    Mid-Atlantic – Washington, DC

Enjoy the annual, FREE Labor Day concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol featuring the National Symphony Orchestra.  It’s actually on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Grab a blanket, some chairs, and a picnic, jump on the Metro, and join in the fun!

Gates open at 5 p.m., and the concert starts at 8 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will move to the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Call the NSO Summer Concert Hotline at (202) 416-8113 after 2:30 p.m. for details.

The closest Metro stations are Capitol South and Union Station.

    Southwest – Arizona

Arts and crafts, rodeos, harvest festivals and county fairs—the possibilities seem endless in the great state of Arizona.

Click the link above and check out events in Phoenix, Sedona, Prescott, Jerome, Tucson and many, many more cities.  There’s something for everyone, and best of all, many of the events are FREE.

    West – Santa Barbara, CA

The “Summer Art in the Garden” installation at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden runs through Labor Day, 2012.

Experience this unique mix of art and nature while strolling through a canyon and redwood forest, along a meadow, across a historic dam, and along ridge tops offering sweeping views of the Channel Islands. Opened in 1926, the Botanic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in California. It spans 65 acres in the foothills just above beautiful Santa Barbara.

September 1-3, regular garden hours, admission fee

    Mid-west – Kansas City

There’s so much doin’ in Kansas City this weekend, it’s hard to make a choice!

How about the Renaissance Festival with its jugglers and gypsies, archers and fairy stories?

Perhaps sports are more your style. Catch a Kansas City Royals game—they play the Minnesota Twins Aug. 31-Sep. 2 and the Texas Rangers from Sep. 3-6.

Maybe music is your passion.  You’re in luck! The Kansas City Symphony presents its FREE Labor Day concert at The Theatre in the Park at Shawnee Mission Park.  All you need is a blanket, so stretch out under the stars and enjoy patriotic favorites and classics alike.

No matter where you are or what you decide to do this weekend, enjoy a safe and happy Labor Day from all of us at the CWT Savvy Traveler.
