More than just a rhetorical question, “Where is Everybody” was in fact the title for the first episode of The Twilight Zone, which aired on Oct. 2, 1959. The series lived on as an icon of pop culture from 1959 through 1964, and continues in syndication even today.
As a frequent traveler, I will admit that I have never had any literal Twilight Zone moments in my adventures (think the Gremlin on the wing of the airplane in “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” which aired in October 1963). In fact, I have not even had any loose interpretations, like Annie Walker (played by Kristen Wiig) spotting a woman dressed in Colonial garb on the wing of her flight to a bachelorette party in Vegas in the movie Bridesmaids.
I have, however, heard numerous stories from fellow travelers that were just strange enough to cue the theme song in my mind, reminding me of the “fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man.”
So let’s hear it from you, readers—what are some of the “Twilight Zone” travel moments you have experienced?
