We shared information about the origins of this holiday in a previous post, but beyond when and why we celebrate, how much do you really know about the individuals who we’re honoring? Yes — the date was originally observed in honor of Washington and Lincoln — but what about the other individuals who shared the title of President of the United States of America?
I did a little research and found some pretty interesting facts about these 44 men. For example, did you know that Thomas Jefferson was the first president to actually be inaugurated in Washington D.C.? Or what about this little known fact–of all 44 presidents, 3 died on the fourth of July, and one was born on the fourth of July (Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Monroe, and Calvin Coolidge, respectively). And although Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States of America, the office has only been held by 42 other individuals. Why? President Grover Cleveland was both the 22nd and 24th President, having been the only President elected to two non-consecutive terms.
Check out this website for even more little-known facts about the men who have proudly led our country over the past 224 years.
Happy Presidents’ Day.
