Fourth of July: From sea to shining sea

To commemorate the Fourth of July in years past we’ve written about celebrating the USA’s Independence Day at the lake and Bob Beard has shared some interesting lesser-known facts about the Fourth.

But for this Independence Day, I was inspired to write by watching a fantastic piece of video. It’s a short film by Simon Christen titled Adrift, showing the fog rolling into the San Francisco Bay area. There are fantastic time-lapse visuals here and it is more than worthy of the time (less than five minutes) it takes to watch. If you’re an American and it doesn’t inspire you, then I don’t know what will.

And if you feel that this post must somehow relate to travel, I’ll just tangentially note that if you don’t know why flights going into San Francisco are frequently delayed, here’s a very striking visual reminder.

Christen writes more about his film and the score on the film’s Vimeo page.

Here’s hoping everyone has a happy and safe Fourth of July!

    Thanks for the beautiful video. Reminds me of the many reasons I love Northern California and hope to get back someday.
    Thanks!(;
