• Super Bowl traffic may impact travel

On Sunday, Feb. 2, the Seattle Seahawks will take on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. East Rutherford, New Jersey will see an influx of visitors as football fans pack into MetLife Stadium. And on Monday, many of those visitors will be heading back home. So, even if you weren’t in the area for the game, but the NY/NJ area is home for you, you’ll want to prepare for increased traffic at area airports Monday.

Travelers flying out of Newark or Teterboro airports in New Jersey, New York’s LaGuardia or JFK airports, or even surrounding airports like White Plains, Hartford-Springfield, and even Philadelphia may want to leave a little extra time to get to the airport and clear security on Monday. You can check current airport status at the FAA website and check flight status via your airline website in advance of your flight. The TSA has increased staffing in preparation for the increased airport traffic, and the TSA also featured some Super Bowl travel tips on their blog.

Here’s hoping for clear skies and mild weather throughout the weekend festivities and into next week, but if the area experiences severe weather, it’ll be one more reason to allow even more extra time ahead of your flight. As always, ensure you’ve double-checked your flight status, confirmed your necessary ground transportation, and have all your mobile devices charged.

    Safe travels!
