Currently, foreign travelers can get a visa for tourism or trade purposes upon their arrival in Turkey, but that will be phased out starting next month.

Effective April 10-11, 2014, travelers will need to obtain their visa prior to their departure for Turkey.

The Turkish Embassies in Washington and Ottawa advise, as does UK.gov and other governmental organizations, that foreign travelers should visit the e-visa application system to apply for an e-visa electronically in advance of their trip. The recommendation is that travelers submit their application at least one week prior to their departure. However, CWT travelers are encouraged to check their corporate travel policy for visa-related policies and submit their application earlier if otherwise instructed.

For travelers from the United States and Canada, the e-visa is valid for multiple entries into Turkey over a period of 180 days, with no individual stay exceeding 90 days in duration. Additional information is available on the e-visa website.

Please note, the e-visa is valid for tourism or business/trade purposes. Travelers visiting Turkey for other purposes such as work or study will need to apply for their visas through the Turkish Embassies or Consulates.

The information on a traveler’s passport must match the information on the visa. Travelers should also ensure their passport is valid for at least six months from the time they enter Turkey.
