If you’ve flown through recently, you may have noticed that Denver International Airport (DIA), the fifth busiest airport in the United States, is currently undergoing some changes. Construction is well underway on a new hotel and transit center adjacent to the existing airport—two additions that airport officials see as a great foundation for DIA’s continued growth.

The hotel, a Westin property, will have 519 guest rooms as well as a conference center. Currently scheduled for a September 2015 opening, the hotel will offer visitors accommodations directly connected to the airport terminal. Meeting planners will also have the option to reduce transit time for their visiting attendees by hosting meetings and conferences right next to the airport.

The other element of the current airport improvement project is a public transit center, including stations for both rail and bus lines. The rail line being completed between DIA and downtown Denver’s Union Station will transport travelers to the city center in approximately 35 minutes. Construction began in 2010, and the 22.8-mile rail line is expected to be open to travelers in 2016.

Travelers driving to or from the airport should pay close attention to road signs, as traffic patterns change periodically to accommodate the ongoing construction. Also, check out the airport’s Facebook page and Twitter feed for construction updates and other ongoing airport news.

Do you travel through DIA often? Looking forward to the improvements? Have any tips for travelers flying to or from Denver? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
