• What the Millennial traveler wants: Flexible work hours, hyper-connectivity, the latest technology

We’re in the middle of graduation season and what will follow will be a new group of young adults entering post-secondary educational institutions or entering the workforce. It seems to be the ideal time to take a closer look at the much-discussed Millennial generation. Born between 1980 and 1996, there are roughly 80 million Millennials in the United States, making this generation larger than the Baby Boomers, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. 20160121_UnionDepotCWT_1Ds3_1271-Edit

Their effect on today’s workforce is noteworthy: They make up one-third of all American workers. Because of this, many studies have been conducted to understand more clearly what it means as they continue to enter the job market. They value experiences and seek flexible work hours, hyper-connectivity and the latest technology.

When it comes to business travel and Millennials, this means:

    • On-the-go technology is key – 75 percent of Millennials use mobile devices to research their travel plans. (source)
    • Millennials are almost twice as likely to want to travel for work as the Baby Boomer generation. (source)
    • Millennial women are having children at a rate that is by far the slowest pace of any generation of young women in U.S. history. Because they are less likely to have responsibilities at home, Millennials can approach business travel as a lifestyle experience. (source)
    • When traveling for business, Millennials are more likely to extend their trip to include a personal vacation. (source)
    • Forty percent of Millennials are likely to share their trip experience via social media. (source)
